DescriptionPhotograph of William Anderson (1820-1892), also known as "Uncle Bill", sitting on a rock in a field at Homeland, the Perine family's country estate in Baltimore County, Maryland. A former slave, he served the Perine family first as the coachman and, then, for thirty years as the gardener. He was employed by the family for a total of sixty years.
