DescriptionEngraving that features a view of the residence of Samuel Chase in Baltimore that was used in Brotherhead's book Centennial Book of the Signers. Samuel Chase, Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court and one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, was born in Somerset County, Maryland. This building on the south side of Lexington Street was erected on ground presented to its distinguished owner by General John Eager Howard. Judge Chase died in 1811, but his widow resided here as late as 1840.
