Description	In this letter dated February 18, 1876 and written from his home at Farrisford, Freshwater, Isle of Wight, Alfred Lord Tennyson replies curtly to Sara Sigourney Rice's request for a contribution to her Edgar Allan Poe memorial. Written on the letterhead of the Tennyson family home at Farrisford, the terse reply probably says less about Tennyson's view of Poe than about Rice's request. Taking Poe's poetry and prose together, Tennyson considered Poe "the most original American genius."
