Description	Document showing the title page of the book entitled The Philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche written by Henry L. Mencken. Published in 1908 by Luce and Company, this was the first "complete popular [treatise] upon Nietzsche and his philosophy in English". Printed below the title is a quote from the book entitled Studies in Pessimism by another German philosopher, Arthur Schopenhauer. Mencken probably made use of this quote to deflect or discourage criticism of his book on Nietzsche from religious philisophers and theologians. Printed in the center of the page is what appears to be a crest for Luce and Company, with the motto "luce et labore" positioned below the central secton of the crest.
