HAPPY JOURNEY TO THE PROMISED LAND.
BY ELDER J. F. WEISHAMPEL.
Air - "Bonnie Blue Flag."
Come, brethren, let us cheerful be, as we do march along,
And sing of "Moses and the Lamb," a joyful, holy song,
While marching through the "Wilderness," led by a heav'nly sign,
From "Egypt" to the "Promised Land," a land of joys divine.
Rejoice! rejoice! and sing in cheerful strain ;
We soon shall meet in th' "Promised Land,"
And never part again.
In " Egypt's bondage" we were bound with sin and guilt and pain,
And when we sought deliv'rance there, we always sought in vain,
Till "Moses," our Deliverer, came, and bid us all be free -
To follow Him where'er He led, and His salvation see.
Rejoice! rejoice! &c.
'Twas cheering for us all, indeed, to see a Saviour's hand: -
With joyful hearts we then arose, to leave th' "oppressor's land;"
And through the sea of Jesus' blood - the "Red Sea" of His love,
He led us wretched sinners forth, His pard'ning love to prove.
Rejoice! rejoice! &c.
We still can hear His lovely voice, as to us He did call:
"Repent of sin - on Me believe - and I will save you all!"
And O what joy our hearts did fill when we had pass'd the sea;
Our sins were pardoned, guilt was gone, and lo! our souls were free!
Rejoice! rejoice! &c.
And now we're in the "Wilderness" - the world of sin and care,
With "strife within and foes without" our feeble feet t' ensare [sic].
But Jesus is our Leader bold - our Moses, wise and strong,
And He can counsel every one, and guide us all along.
Rejoice! rejoice! &c.
Our journey may be short or long, the end will surely come,
And we must pass bold "Jordan's stream," before we reach our home;
But Jesus passed that stream before - He died, but lives again, -
And He will pilot us across, beyond all harm and pain.
Rejoice! rejoice! &c.
Then we'll be in the "Promised Land," and Christ will be our King;
There we shall of His mercy speak, and of His glory sing.
When we've been there ten thousand years, all shining as the sun,
We've no less days to sing God's praise, than when we first begun.
Rejoice! rejoice! &c.
SECOND PART - SING SLOWLY.
O sinners, will you still remain in "bondage" and in sin,
While we all "run the Christian race, a crown of life to win?"
O must we leave you all behind, while we do forward go?
We bound to reach immortal joy, but you eternal woe!
Farewell! farewell! - for we are bound to go:
We're bound to "Canaan's Happy Land,"
You - to the land of woe!!!
O hear you not the Saviour's call - He speaks in tones of love:
He calls you to His open arms - O now His goodness prove!
He bled for you, He groaned for you, He died that you might live;
O will you now His mercy prove, or still His Spirit grieve?
Farewell! farewell! &c.
This world is all a fleeting show, to lead the soul astray;
But Jesus is the soul's sure hope - "the life, the truth, the way."
Come, join the army of the Lord, whose sins are all forgiv'n;
Be pure in heart, and march along, until we get to Heav'n.
Farewell! farewell! &c.
Once more we ask you in His name - O sinners, will you come?
Will you be saved in Jesus' love, or still in exile roam?
If still you will resist His love, we bid you all farewell; -
We're bound to "Canaan's Happy Land," while you are bound to hell.
Farewell! farewell! &c.
