I gave you back each tender little token, And far across the seas then I may go, Oh! can it be from love you have released me? And that my love has always been in vain? Ah! when your love has conquered pride and anger, I know that you will call me back again. Cho. - Call me back again! Call me back again! You've left me now, I never more will see you, - Those happy days of old must now depart, The true, fond love I once bestowed upon you, Has flown away from me like Cupid's dart, Oh! yes 'tis so! from love you have released me! Such dreary thoughts have cause me grief and pain I love you still - such love will live forever; I know that you will call me back again; I dreampt last night a pretty little starling Came gently tapping on my window blind, And in its bill a message from my darling, Which said that you'd recalled the words unkind; And my heart, love, ne'er can be a stranger, Such dreary thoughts have ceased to give me pain I love you still - such love will live forever; I know that yon [sic] will call me back again. Hendrickson (latter information not provided on this sheet). Printed by P. J. Dennis of Baltimore, Maryland, this broadside speaks of unrequited love. Two lovers have had a disagreement, and one (the speaker) has left, traveling across the seas. But the speaker still loves the one left behind and believes that on his (gender is not clear) return the other will put aside her pride and anger and take him back. The title and all of the verses are displayed within a decorative border.
