Your very interesting letter came early this morning and I trust the February project will speedily fructify to your satisfaction and mine.
The Valentine has never been published, indeed few, even of the family, know of its existence. It came with other papers to your grandmother Poe, as did also the water-color portrait [of Virginia Clemm Poe], (from which my copy-righted photograph was taken for the Chicago Fair of 1893). It is the only portrait of Virginia and now in my possession or rather at 1228 for safe-keeping, with the other painting of EAP [Edgar Allan Poe], which you told me of, in the Howard Street Shop and which I afterwards bought.
