I was very glad to hear from you, though your brief note--received a day or two since--says nothing about yourself. Since my return from Europe I had not heard of any of you.
I am sorry to have no photographs--I never had mine taken. Moved by the requests of many friends, I sat for one to some photographer in Broadway; the proof was a wretched affair, but I ordered two dozen, which order he never thought proper to execute. I have been intending to try again some day, when the weather is fine and I have leisure, if such a thing can be anticipated. I suppose the mere signatures will be worthless--but send them on a venture. It is easy for you to throw them in the fire.
